TUTORIAL

1. Open your file in Photoshop (or whatever programm you're using to edit your pictures).

2. Select the dog with the Polygon-Lasso Tool or select it the way you want it (exp. paint select tool).

3. Cut it out and paste it to a new layer so you don't edit the background. (Ctrl + C -> Ctrl. + V)

4. Use a preference picture and make a new layer. Draw in the where the fur should be and the direction it should go. I would recommend naming your layer, i never do it and i get confused easily xD

5. Make an extra copy of your cut-out dog layer and hide the first one to have a unedited layer if you're not happy with the result in the end.

6. Now take the smudge tool and edit the fur the way you want it to be. (You can see my smudge tool options above, yes i use the standard brushes)

7. I would recommend using a reference picture again for this step:

Draw the shine with the brush on a new layer where you want it to be. Use a new layer for that.

8. Make another new layer and draw the shine correctly with the brush a little lighter than the coat color. The take the smudge tool and smudge it the way i did above so it fits the fur.

9. Now change the layer mode of the shine-layer. You can around until it looks the way you want it to be.

10. Open the "corrections" and add a new graviation-curve-layer. Play around with the curve until it looks the way you want it to be. I would recommend only adding two "points" to your curve to not mess around with it too badly.

11. Optional you can add a lead with the path tool. I use the brush settings above for my leashes most of the time. I would recommend adding the leash to a new layer in case you want to change the background and don't want to mess with the leash.

This is my result and i wanna encourage you to try it yourself, it's not that hard to do.

Please use a reference if you are not too familiar with your dogs breed or are just not sure how the fur should look.
